De pagina die u probeert te bereiken is op last van de rechter onbereikbaar gemaakt.
Op 11 januari deed de Rechtbank Den Haag uitspraak in de zaak die BREIN had aangespannen tegen XS4ALL en Ziggo. De rechter heeft geoordeeld dat we de website van de Pirate Bay ontoegankelijk moeten maken voor onze klanten. In het vonnis staat een aantal IP-adressen en domeinen en subdomeinen die we moeten blokkeren. Bovendien heeft de Stichting BREIN van de rechter de macht gekregen om die lijst uit te breiden door ons een fax met extra adressen te sturen, zonder dat ze daarvoor opnieuw langs de rechter moeten. XS4ALL is het daar fundamenteel mee oneens, dus gaan we in Hoger Beroep.

The countries of the world sized according to the amount of government spending

In the words of the World Bank, which published it in a report issued this week ("Golden Growth: Restoring the lustre of the European Economic model", here), Europe is the world's “lifestyle superpower”. As opposed to America, which spends almost as much as the rest of the world put together on defence, Europe spends more than the rest of the globe combined on social policies.

In many ways this is an admirable aspect of Europe's economic model, which combines high living standards with high standards of social welfare. The trouble is, such spending is helping to bankrupt governments—not least because those very same caring policies ensure that Europeans live longer, requiring more expenditure on health care and the payment of pensions for more years.

Het is een schande dat ongewenste vreemdelingen in Nederland gestraft worden zonder een misdaad begaan te hebben, en zelfs slechter behandeld worden dan moordenaars, verkrachters en andere criminelen.

Dit is al jaren aan de gang, veel mensen weten ervan en schamen zich diep. We zijn door de Amnesty International, de Raad van Europa en de Verenigde Naties veroordeeld aangesproken op schendingen van basale menselijke rechten - en doen er niets aan.

Aan minister Leers en staatssecretaris Teeven: ik hoop dat u, de rest van uw leven, zwetend van angst wakker wordt in het besef dat uw buitensluiting, onrechtmatige detentie en langdurige eenzame opsluiting slechts een zoveelste slechte droom was.

Voor duizenden is dit de dagelijkse realiteit, en wij zijn er dankzij de herhaaldelijke, grootschalige en onvergeeflijke nalatigheid van bewindsvoerders verantwoordelijk voor. Slaap zacht.

Vandaag heeft een rechter, op basis van onjuist geïnterpreteerde informatie, beslist dat XS4ALL en Ziggo 'The Pirate Bay' moeten gaan blokkeren.

Hierbij moeten deze (en als de jurispundentie standhoudt ook alle andere) providers klakkeloos alle IP adressen en DNS-records die Brein aanlevert blokkeren - en is de facto de vrijheid van meningsuiting ondergeschikt aan commerciële belangen verklaard. Daarnaast is het lijnrecht in strijd met de beslissing van de Tweede Kamer om net-neutraliteit zeker te stellen.

New tests conducted at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory of INFN by the OPERA Collaboration, with a specially set up neutrino beam from CERN, confirm so far the previous results on the measurement of the neutrino velocity. The new tests seem to exclude part of potential systematic effects that could have affected the original measurement.

"A measurement so delicate and carrying a profound implication on physics requires an extraordinary level of scrutiny - said Fernando Ferroni, president of Italian Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) - The experiment OPERA, thanks to a specially adapted CERN beam, has made an important test of consistency of its result. The positive outcome of the test makes us more confident in the result, although a final word can only be said by analogous measurements performed elsewhere in the world".

"One of the eventual systematic errors is now out of the way, but the search is not over. They are more checks of systematics currently under discussion, one of them could be a synchronisation of the time reference at CERN and Gran Sasso independently from the GPS, using possibly a fiber" said Jacques Martino, Director of National Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics of French CNRS.

A new treaty is on it's way of being ratified by Europe's parliaments to instantiate an extra-governmental organisation, the ESM, which has full juridical immunity. It can order virtually unlimited amounts of money (starting with 700 billion) to be paid within 7 days without the possibility of democratic control.

Do we really want to:

Allow virtually unlimited amounts of national debt to built up in order to save the Euro?
Have no way to control the amounts of money being lended in order to bail the Euro out?
Have no way of holding the ones in control over the ESM responsible for their actions?

If you don't, please write your local politicians. We cannot let this happen.

Hoewel er in 1998 een nieuwe bankwet is gekomen, die de aandelen van De Nederlandsche Bank volgens de letter van de wet (nationalisatie) exclusief bij de overheid brengt, is het ook zo dat DNB zelf aangeeft dat de NV vorm een zekere vorm van onafhankelijkheid geeft… Toch een rare zaak als er maar één eigenaar is. Waarom zou die dan niet mogen aangeven hoe er gewerkt moet worden?

In tegenstelling tot wat je denkt: we zijn niet de 1%. Of ik althans niet, en ik heb er weinig mensen ontmoet waarvan ik denk dat ze daarbij horen.

Wij zijn wellicht de rijkste 10 a 15%, qua inkomen. Maar dat betekent niet dat we onze welvaart niet willen delen - in tegendeel.

Daarnaast willen wij wat we hebben; een samenleving met een hoog niveau aan 'beschaving' - toegang tot zorg, onderwijs, cultuur en sociale zekerheid - niet in verval laten brengen.

Het lijkt er echter op dat alles wat West-Europa kwalitatief beter maakt dan de leefomgeving van het merendeel van de wereldbevolking, door het toedoen van een kleine groep onverantwoordelijke mensen met een onevenredig grote macht, op het spel gezet wordt.

Naast het feit dat er door de crisis gigantische hoeveelheden mensen in derde wereldlanden in een (nog) diepere armoede terecht zijn gekomen, dreigt voor een groot deel van onze bevolking op korte termijn een aanzienlijk deel van alles wat ons daadwerkelijk rijk maakt (en dat is géén geld) kwijt te raken.

Kort gezegd: ja wij staan hier omdat we vreze voor onze eigen welvaart, in brede zin. En: ja wij staan hier omdat wij vinden dat alle mensen een vergelijkbare welvaart mogen genieten: basale levenszekerheid, onderwijs, culturele en intellectuële vrijheid.

If a majority of Slovak parliamentarians don't support the EFSF expansion, it could ultimately mean the end of the common currency.

Sulik: The opposite is actually the case. The greatest threat to the euro is the bailout fund itself.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: How so?

Sulik: It's an attempt to use fresh debt to solve the debt crisis. That will never work. …

Op 14 september hield de Tweede Kamer een hoorzitting over de risico’s van de winning van schaliegas uit diepe aardlagen in Nederland. Er is al toestemming voor een proefboring in het Brabantse Boxtel. In de VS hebben ze al jaren ervaring met wat ze daar 'fracking' noemen.

Filmmaker Josh Fox, woonachtig in het waterwingebied van New York, kan zijn land leasen aan een bedrijf dat gaswinning op zijn terrein wil gaan doen. Voor 100.000 dollar. Zo’n aanbod kun je moeilijk afslaan. Maar Fox vertrouwt het niet.

Het is het begin van een roadmovie langs de boorputten in de VS. Schaliegas wordt gezien als een ideale oplossing om de schaarste te overbruggen nadat de aardolie is uitgeput en duurzame energie op wereldschaal nog niet echt op gang is. In de VS zijn al tienduizenden boorputten geslagen om het gas met behulp van veel chemicaliën aan de aardlagen te onttrekken.

Thousands of people are locked up for having comitted no crime other than being in the wrong country. For this, my country has been on Amnesty International's blacklist once again, whereas we used to be a strong proponent of human rights.

Furthermore, this new juridical situation is now being used to lock up 'difficult' activists without as much as an incrimination. Out of 140 demonstrators who were arrested for having comitted nothing but making some noise over a squat eviction on the 5th of July, 4 are still in 'immigrant detention' for not coorperating with their own prosecution. Clearly, there is no 'right to remain silent' in our country.

A sad day for a country that was once called liberal.

Today, Schijnheilig, one of the last significant squats with a public cultural function in Amsterdam, got evicted. Over the last years Schijnheilig has allowed underground culture with a place to flourish, providing a place for alternative music, poetry, theater and art.

It has now been violently removed from its former location at the Passeerdersgracht, probably leaving a beautiful building (with a designated cultural function) in the center empty and unused for several years to come.

After all, rules are rules. Don't you love a sterile city?
